If you’re a person who’s ever traveled with kids the below Airbnb commercial nails it. Pretty much, if you stay in a hotel room, you’re stuck going to bed when the kids do. But in an Airbnb, there’s more space, and you make the rules!
It made me think of WordPress vs. some of the other website building platforms out there. With WordPress, you are not shackled by any constraints.
With WordPress:
- The possibilities are endless. As your business grows and evolves, all of your needs can be met inside the flexibility of WordPress. You can do anything, plus, there’s a plugin for everything.
- You will never be stuck with something that isn’t what you want. With a great WordPress developer and a reasonable budget, there’s nothing that can’t be done.
- You own the site. A WordPress website is a set of usable files that you own. Want to change hosts? Just host those files elsewhere.
- You are not relying on anyone else to have a website. If your website builder goes down, do you still have a website?
- Your website will last. The core WordPress files are timeless. Your site can be updated as information and preferences change, and it will always look how you want because you aren’t limited in any way.
- You won’t look like everyone else. Templates can only make you so unique. All of the sites in my portfolio were developed in WordPress.
With WordPress, the sky’s the limit…
You can use your WordPress website for e-commerce capabilities, selling courses and memberships, running virtual conferences, and so much more. (Say goodbye to the misconceptions about WordPress—it’s for everything!)
Considering something besides WordPress? Ask yourself these questions:
Not to knock the competition, but I have to keep it real … When you use an externally-hosted service like Shopify, Squarespace, Weebly or Wix, what happens:
- If they shut down or go out of business?
- If you need to do something—and it’s not possible?
- If your business grows, and you don’t want to be stuck in a template?
- If you want to transfer your website to another platform? (It’s not as easy as downloading files or copying and pasting.)
- If their prices go up to an amount you’re not comfortable with?
So many clients have told me,
“I wish I used WordPress the first time.”
If you are looking for a budget site, and want to “just get something up there”—one of the website builders might make sense as Phase 1.
If you are looking to grow and evolve, and you have a budget now, save yourself aggravation, money and missed-opportunities. Choose WordPress.
Whether it’s traveling—or website development—you’re paying money. You’ve taken time. You deserve to have an experience that’s worth it! And while a trip might only last a few days, a WordPress website can last for generations.
