Affirmations this freelance web designer lives by

As a busy freelancer, remembering to say “no,” letting work be good enough, and turning off my darn email once in a while, helps me stay productive and focused. And sometimes, I have to remind myself to wear my big girl pants and take control of my business.

These affirmations are hanging in my office right next to the window. When I find myself gazing outside, hopelessly daydreaming, these words of wisdom pull me back to the world of reality and a place where I call the shots. Hopefully, they’ll help you too.

The original affirmations I created in 2012

If I say "yes" what am I saying "no" to?
Good enough is just fine.
Email is a weapon of mass destruction.
It's time to put my big girl pants on.

Affirmations added in 2014

I had the honor of speaking at the HOW Design Live Creative Freelancer Business Conference in 2014 and I added a few more affirmations to my toolbox.

Pay it forward.
Make fake deadlines for myself.
Boundaries are my BFF.
When I allow clients to rush me, kittens cry. Don't make kittens cry.

If you want to print these out yourself, here’s a PDF of my Affirmations.

Affirmations are still one of my most favorite way to approach change: Gentle reminders—that with continued use—create new habits that make us even more awesome.
